Higher-order topology and corner triplon excitations in two-dimensional quantum spin-dimer models

چکیده
The concept of free fermion topology has been generalized to $d$-dimensional phases that exhibit $(d\ensuremath{-}n)$-dimensional boundary modes, such as zero-dimensional (0D) corner excitations. Motivated by recent extensions these ideas magnetic systems, we consider 2D quantum paramagnets formed interacting spin dimers with dispersive triplet We propose two examples dimer models, where the spin-gapped bosonic triplon excitations are shown host bands nontrivial higher-order topology. demonstrate this using real-space Bogoliubov--de Gennes calculations reveal existence near-mid band gap modes a signature bulk provide an understanding in systems via computation topological invariants well construction edge theories and study their phase transitions tune parameters model Hamiltonians. also discuss possible experimental approaches for detecting emergent modes.

Higher-order intersections in low-dimensional topology.
We show how to measure the failure of the Whitney move in dimension 4 by constructing higher-order intersection invariants of Whitney towers built from iterated Whitney disks on immersed surfaces in 4-manifolds. For Whitney towers on immersed disks in the 4-ball, we identify some of these new invariants with previously known link invariants such as Milnor, Sato-Levine, and Arf invariants. We al...
متن کاملMagnetic monopole and string excitations in two-dimensional spin ice
We study the magnetic excitations of a square lattice spin-ice recently produced in an artificial form, as an array of nanoscale magnets. Our analysis, based upon the dipolar interaction between the nanomagnetic islands, correctly reproduces the ground-state observed experimentally. In addition, we find magnetic monopole-like excitations effectively interacting by means of the usual Coulombic p...
متن کاملQuantum criticality, lines of fixed points, and phase separation in doped two-dimensional quantum dimer models
We study phase diagrams of a class of doped quantum dimer models on the square lattice with ground-state wave functions whose amplitudes have the form of the Gibbs weights of a classical doped dimer model. In this dimer model, parallel neighboring dimers have attractive interactions, whereas neighboring holes either do not interact or have a repulsive interaction. We investigate the behavior of...
متن کاملQuantum deformation of two four-dimensional spin foam models
We construct the q-deformed version of two four-dimensional spin foam models, the Euclidean and Lorentzian versions of the EPRL model. The q-deformed models are based on the representation theory of two copies of Uq(su(2)) at a root of unity and on the quantum Lorentz group with a real deformation parameter. For both models we give a definition of the quantum EPRL intertwiners, study their conv...
